So... that contest that happened yesterday for the Godot Mugs over at Court-Records.net?
Unexpectedly for the owner of the site, it went down around 4:15 or so. Their forums were disabled to allow the website to handle the people mercilessly pounding refresh and loading all the pages.
They had set up a "hide-and-seek" where you had to find oddities in the website, such as random sentences or images hotlinked, and then you'd find letters (or in some cases, quizzes where you got letters if you did well enough) and clues revealing how many letters you needed to find.
You also had to unscramble the letters and send the result off to the webmaster, telling them where you found each letter to prevent cheating. It was a lot of work, let me tell you...
Around 4:45 I discovered the contest had opened, so I dove right into it, searching out different locations and using the 'tab' key to look through every link on every page. It was a lot of work to find things, and some I would have never found without the 'tab' function.
Let me tell you... I got so frustrated with it around the 90-minute mark. I had found 9 of the 12 letters, and I had to head out to TOPL, so I decided to stop.
It was great fun, I have to say. I would have never in my life figured out the answer (since, I have to admit, I don't read production staff lists - the answer was one of the team members), so I don't feel so bad in missing out.
I think I might give a small donation to the site regardless... I must've eaten up a lot of bandwidth looking for those hints.
Speaking of all this, Phoenix Wright 3: Ace Attorney is out today! Go buy it if you haven't already! :D
