So, a old co-worker of mine, Erich, has decided to go off to Japan for a year in hopes of landing a job there as an international cameraman. I haven't heard back from him when I sent him an e-mail, but he's put up a MySpace account - and from the first post that he's made, I've been thinking about heading back there again. I've only been away from Japan for 5 months and already I'm wanting to go back. *sigh* Well, once I get my money in order and all that, I'll feel better about myself and maybe take another trip. I had such a wonderful time out there; I envy Erich's thought process in that he's got enough cash to survive 2 months, and hopes to land a job quickly. He's always been a great go-getter, and this is just an extension of that.

So that Dead Rising game is getting a lot of great press (aside from the technical troubles with Standard-Definition TVs). You know, the concept is rather interesting - you're dropped off in the mall and the helicopter will pick you up in 72 real-time hours, meaning that you live in the mall for exactly 3 days. I had a similar concept on a smaller scale for an idea for a game, set in the Resident-Evil idea - you're stuck in a mansion overnight and you just have to wait until daybreak before you can leave. Now, if you want to, you can sit in the Lobby for the entire 8 hours and nothing would happen (or maybe some monster would come strolling through, dependent on what went on in the game) and you could leave without seeing anything. But obviously that would be a boring game - the most interesting ending would be achieved by exploring the house you're trapped in, and trying to survive rather than sitting in the front room the whole 8 hours. :P

I've been updating this entry backwards. I started with the lyrics and the most recent part of this entry was this one. How strange of me!

Spaced is a great TV show. I really need to see more!

I'm a Talent!

You're a risk-taker, and you follow your passions. You're determined to take on the world and succeed on your own terms. Whether in the arts, science, engineering, business, or politics, you fearlessly express your own vision of the world. You're not afraid of a fight, and you're not afraid to bet your future on your own abilities. If you find a job boring or stifling, you're already preparing your resume. You believe in doing what you love, and you're not willing to settle for an ordinary life.

Talent: 59%
Lifer: 41%
Mandarin: 46%

I think "Weird Al" Yankovic's first single ("Don't Download This Song") off his new CD, "Straight Outta Lynwood" is a much better way of approaching people and telling them that downloading MP3s is wrong. I mean, strong-arming people just makes them look like bullies, and is song just sounds like a "Band-Aid" version of the issue at hand. (Plus, he's also put it up on his MySpace site as a free download... heh.)

And you're probably wondering why "You're Pitiful" is not the "true" first single off his new album - because it's not on the CD. He answered the question in an interview with NPR. Evil Record Companies strike again!

"Weird Al" Yankovic - Don't Download This Song

Once in a while
Maybe you will feel the urge
To break international copyright law
By downloading MP3s
From filesharing sites
Like Morpheus or Grokster or Limewire or Kazaa

But deep in your heart
You know the guilt would drive you mad
And the shame would leave a permanent scar
'Cause you start out stealing songs
Then you're robbing liquor stores
And selling crack and running over schoolkids with your car

So don't download this song
The record store's where you belong
Go and buy the CD like you know that you should
Oh, don't download this song

Ohh-ohh-ohh, you don't want to mess with the RI-double-A
They'll sue you if you burn that CD-R
Doesn't matter if you're a Grandma or a seven-year old girl
They'll treat you like the evil hard-bitten criminal scum you are

So don't download this song (Don't go -)
Pirating music all day long
Go and buy the CD like you know that you should
Oh, don't download this song

Don't take away money from artists just like me
How else can I afford another solid-gold Humvee?
And diamond-studded swimming pools, these things don't grow on trees
So all I ask is everybody, please -

Don't download this song (Don't do it, No, no)
Even Lars Ulrich knows it's wrong (you can just ask him)
Go and buy the CD like you know that you should (you really should)
Oh, don't download this song

Don't download this song (Oh please don't you do it, or you -)
Might end up in jail like Tommy Chong (remember Tommy?)
Go and buy the CD (right now!) like you know that you should (go out, buy it!)
Oh, don't download this song

Don't download this song (Na-na-na-na-na-na-na, noooooo)
You'll burn in hell before too long (like you deserve it)
Go and buy the CD (just buy it!) like you know that you should (

It's not in real time. One minute game time is about five seconds real time. An hour takes about five minutes or so. It's not that masochistic, but it's a lot deeper than you'd think. You think 72 hours is all there is? ^_^
