Hi everyone! Man, it's been BUSY these past few days. We've been zoming around town, meeting up with people and getting last-minute things done before we get out to Japan.
I've got a hotel for Tokyo now. I was worried (and frustrated) for quite some time due to the place that I was making reservations, AsiaRooms.com. As it stands, it's got good rates, but I would only recommend it if you either have a high credit card limit or a lot of time before the trip. Why, might you ask? Because the process they do is manual - they check your credit card to make sure that you have the funds, hold said funds, and then call the hotel and see if there are any spaces available. So, I went ahead and made reservations, and after a few "hotel fully booked" notices, I suddenly get a "credit card declined" error. I call Visa about this and discover that the funds they hold for reservations were still pending and therefore I couldn't use the funds, even though the transation is cancelled. >:(
So what happened in that regard? I have a couple of thousand dollars in "cancelled" transactions that haven't been processed yet, and so I was forced to increase my credit card limit - and I went to the Japan Travel Bureau downtown for a reservation in Tokyo. I've also got tickets for the Ghibli Museum for Friday. It was much easier to make the reservation with the JTB than it was with AsiaRooms, I'd recommend using a travel agency. Why didn't we?? *shrugs*
I'm feeling much more relaxed, now that I know that I've got my reservations completed. All we need to do is just sort out the itinerary and see what's in each area, so we're not zigzagging across Tokyo. I am so thankful that I have this week off to sort things out. Otherwise I'd be pretty screwed. O.o
Kinnon, I got your e-mail - we're going to add your suggestions to our itinerary and see what we can do. There's so much to do in Japan!

Thing is, during this week, REVIEW YOUR KATAKANA. It will save you a lot of headaches. The Hiragana is important, but I think at least with the Katakana, you can get by. I mean, even if you can read the Hiragana, you might not understand what it means, since it's Japanese.
