Okay, so this past weekend, Nintendo released its first public viewing of the Nintendo Revolution controller (which has been dubbed a "Remote Controller" in some circles). It's showing up all over the place - 1up.com has their impressions as well as the video that was released at the announcement. IGN has done some thinking for once and came up with some possibilities for the new controller.
Well first off, let me preface things by saying I'm a Nintendo fanboy. Dave can attest to the fact that I got my Gamecube for free as I waited for 11 hours in front of the store that was doing the midnight release. I've never purchased another company's console and I really don't see a need as I figure I'm more of a casual gamer these days (i.e. not as hardcore as I used to be).
I look at the Revolution Controller and I'm impressed. I like the idea. However, I'm also looking at the "console wars" and seeing that the Gamecube, facing off against the XBox and the PS2, sometimes doesn't get the games. There are lots of games that never had a Gamecube release due to reasons unknown, but they come out on the XBox and PS2 where the Gamecube release would be rather welcomed.
I'm just worried, with this unusual, unique, and intuitive controller, that it will further alienate the Nintendo group from the XBox360 and PS3 systems as it will be more difficult to port over games using the different control style. (Then again, they have mentioned that they are not an all-in-one type system like the PS3 and Xboxes are trying to be...)
Now, on the other hand, Nintendo recently released the NintendoDS, which was followed by Sony's PSP, and the DS appears to be dominating in terms of game sales due to its unique stylus and touchscreen design. I'm hoping that some of the creative juices running from the DS will be spilled-over into the Revolution, and that it will stand on its own. Besides, if something as simple as a stylus design will inspire games like Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney and Trace Memory to be released, I hope that some tryuly inspired Revolution games will be created. :)
Something someone said on a board I lurk on that "it's a remote, therefore, it will get lost". *laughs* Can't argue with that, it does look like something that would fall inbetween seat cushions. XD
Nintendo has pegged the release date for 2006 - so I assume that means November of next year. It couldn't be ready earlier than that, I don't think...
(While we're quickly on the topic of the DS, I think that a great game that could be ported over would be Cool Cool Toon. Isn't Ouendan using the same kind of "control scheme"? OMG, "Ready Steady Go" is in Ouendan!)
BTW, when's Odama coming out? ;)
EDIT: On another game-related note: Cave Story. Area: Hell. Difficulty: WOW. OUCH. Still want to get through it...
EDIT TWO: OMG I just had the bestest, and yet dirtiest thought at the same time... they could remake Rez with that Remote Controller.

Unless there is a mass amount of stuff to convince me otherwise, I'm still ONLY getting the Revolution when it comes out, neither of the other two interest me in the least.
But yeah, DS is kickin ass and I love it. The only think I play on my PSP is well...Chrono Trigger >.> and when I'm done with that (for the millionth time) it'll be more SNES games, lol. Sony is doing a lot of things wrong right now, and the PS3 is likely to be their last system (note that that's not just my words, but many others are saying this as well), and if not, the PS4 will be the last for sure. I THINK I already talked about that in one of my entries...but I dun remember x.O

Yay for Revolution-only! :) I hope they keep with their lower price-point as well - that was something I've always appreciated, not having to shell out $300-500 for a new system every 2-3 years.
I think the best thing about the PSP is that everyone's buying them to play the retro games from other systems. XD Heck, Dave recently managed to get ScummVM working on it (and I've seen ScummVM systems for the DS - which is a perfect match, in my opinion).
Really, PS3 might be the death-knell? O.o I would have NEVER guessed that. Really. That's curious....

I just hope they have enough games on launch THIS time =P I'm still getting it anyway though, lol...
Yeah, though sadly for anyone buying a PSP now...you CAN'T play the emus and stuff cause the firmware is updated. Only 1.0 and 1.5 can play all the lil fun homebrew stuff people have made...which reminds me, I should check the site to see if the SNES is updated...STILL can't play Mario RPG at a decent speed =( and I'm wanting to get the M3 for the DS, this also plays a mess of the Emus and such. I have Scumm on my PSP also...but I dun have a big enough mem stick for Sam and Max -_- I played Monkey Island though =3
And yeah, I could get all into about how Sony is messing up, but I'm about to nap soon as I'm relieved from kid duty >.> I have some of it here: http://www.livejournal.com/users/sexyslave/54273.html if ya missed that one

Pick up EmuPack 3, which has a ton of emulators on it, and the SNES one is good enough that I can play Super Metroid on it. Also, are you changing the PSP clock speed to 333mHz, and changing the frame skip to "auto"? Those will make a HUUUUUUUUGE difference in the quality of gameplay. I'm still having trouble playing some FX chip games as well as games that have huge sprites in them (like Street Fighter), but overall, I'm quite happy.

I've got all the Emus I want...except a decent Genesis Emu...but I dun have any good ROMs for it anymore anyway, so yeah ^_^;;
But yeah, I do the 333mhz, and usually I put frame skip at 4 or so (this depends on the game also) and it usually runs perfect...for most games. I used those settings for Chrono Trigger...but Mario RPG doesn't run quite well enough yet, and Kirby's Super Star STILL runs REALLY bad even at max settings. I think the day that Kirby's SS runs perfect will be the day they're done making homebrew stuff =P
I'm curious to see how well Emus on DS run ^_^

DS emus run GRRRRRRREAT! ^_^

As far as SNES Emu, I had a really update version, I got it like...two weeks ago, though there might be a new one by now. Still, that's Chrono Trigger, which is a bit more on the graphical side then other SNES games =P Either way, I don't use that setting for other games, but currently it's the only game I'm playing on it.
I imagine they would, I need to get that M3 thing. Either way, I'm still very busy playing Jump Superstars, Ouendan and accasionally Nintendogs, lol.
