I've been following the Alternate-Reality Game ("ARG") ilovebees for quite some time now. I only wish they'd have some phone booths in Canada, as I'd love to pick up a random phone call and connect with the Operator on one of these things. I played Majestic for the time it was "live", and while the start of the game begins with a tutorial which gets abruptly shutdown due to a fire at the Anim-X studios (I can't link to it, since it appears that Anim-X's website at www.anim-x.com is no longer theirs... 'cause it's now "Animated XXX" >,< whoops), it had a real shutdown after four months because of lack of interest for the game. :(

The ARGs seem to be popular when people don't have to pay for them. :P One of the first ones created was a lead-in for the movie "A.I." (do a search for "Jeanine Salla"), and I think that the same PuppetMasters who created that ARG also created this ilovebees one. They're very similar in using the website and phone calls to contact people.

There was even an ARG for The Matrix. It unfortunately went under the radar and never really took off. But give this a try - click on "Directory" near the very bottom of the linked page, then "Redland" (heh, they have a Toronto office), and enter their former CEO, "AveryJames" or try "AndersonThomas" (aka Neo, aka Keanu Reeves, aka Ted, aka Doesn't Talk Much).

I've also heard that Alias had an ARG running for a while.

Ever hear of the Chicken Gun? Neither had I, aside from the Air Farce Chicken Cannon, but apprently they actually have to throw chickens into a jet turbine in order to be assured that the engine can still run in case of... accidents. o.o I learned all this, thanks to Dork Tower. :P

I'd heard of something similar to that, but my dad told me they use cats... which at the time seemed funny... probably because he did a very animated impression of what a cat would sound like as it was tossed into a jet turbine... O.o; good ol'dad

I knew that they have to test a jet engine's ability to survive a poultry encounter. I learned it from the Discovery Channel, or TLC or something.
