You're a Winter. You very much enjoy your time alone but do like other people's company sometimes. You just need your space. You have a few priviledged friends who saw past your colder exterior to find the true you. You can have pretty bad mood swings (though you hate to admit it) so you could be soft one second then storming around the next! But over all, you're a very pleasant person once people take the time to get to know you. You're a good friend for in-depth talks. You're very talanted when it comes to creative things.
What season are you? (pics)

That's a pretty good definition of me,,,

Holy CRAP, Rogers newsgroups have turned from average to suck. Apparently they've got some deal with Giganews and I have a max of 2 connections of 256kbits/sec (slower than dialup). And I hear they're limiting BitTorrent traffic, too...

For newsgroups, you don't have to stick with your ISP's servers. Check out sites like newzbot or freenews for lists of publically-accessible news servers. And with most newsreaders, you can specify several servers to use simultaneously.

For bittorrent, they're probably limiting based on what port you're using, which is easily circumvented. If you use bittornado you can set it with a huge range of ports to choose from, and tell it to pick a random port for each connection. I think it's even set up that way by default, actually. (Of course, you'll want to tell your router to forward that whole port-range through to your PC too, so you can accept incoming connections -- which helps your transfer rates substantially.)

Thanks for the usenet links! I'll check them out when I get home... or whenever I have some time (as I'm working this evening and then tomorrow morn).

I can't believe that Rogers actually went with this "upgrade" unless their plan was to turn people away from newsgroups. (That's the only plausible theory I can think of, it'll take me a few days to just get all the headers from the past week for the 10 groups I frequent... oooh, so now there's like 20 days retention versus 3, but I'll need all that time to download it... >_<)

And I wasn't aware of the BitTornado random ports thing! You're right, it's set as default, so I'm pleased. :D (I widened the port range anyhow, since Rogers is probably capping the range I'm on currently...)

Now I have to hope that my modem works when I go home tonight - it was malfunctioning when I left this afternoon >_< (Not a good Rogers week, methinks...)

Thanks again! Good to hear from you!
