So last night I get a popup stating that my Virus Update has expired.
Um, no, I purchased a one-year DAT Update back in February or March sometime...
I go onto the "Customer Service" Artificial Intelligence Pre-programmed Scripts site and get told that my McAfee VirusScan 6 is no longer supported...
So I get a phone number and I'm on the phone right now - actually, I've been on hold a lot. Their music-muzak loop is a short 5 minutes. Not even a voice, thankfully.
The first person was no help - "It's a technical problem, but Technical Support won't assist you because you have outdated software." And I've been using 6 while the world's been using 7 and 8 which use the same DAT files, and I can't use 6 until the end of my DAT Update? Nope, apparently not.
I eventually get her down to the point where she says I have one option: "Upgrade." "But what if I don't want to upgrade?" "Do you want to speak to my supervisor?" "Please."
I get on the horn with him, and he can't find out when I purchased the DAT Upgrade. "Do you have an order number?" "Um, no, why would I have one after a month if you tell me I can't get my money refunded after a month?" So now they're put me to McAfee's Online Store line, and it's another infuriating 5-minute muzak loop. Supposed to be calming...
Remember back when I first got this year of upgrades? Back then, I had told them after I found virus after virus on my computer that the software was not doing its job (of "Real-Time Protection") and that I would not be coming back when this expires. Now I just want my remaining time (in money) back.
So, I've called the McAfee Online Store and they don't have any records of my purchase. O_O Wow. This is totally a company failure here. I might just write a physical letter.
Which reminds me, I need to call Subway back. They gypped me on a "Free Food Prize" ticket and they haven't returned my return call to them. Grrr....
Resolution!
...Well, all's said and done, they've sent me a free VirusScan 8 upgrade. I've got another year's worth of updates, too. Troubles, when solved correctly, keep people happy. :P
