And although the site is quite buggered up, here's a few sites for a robot called Pino. It'd be a cheaper alternative to QRIO, at least for the time being, and he comes in three sizes (the smaller ones do less, but of course, are only around $50, versus $400 for the largest of the three):

Here's a good bit of information on the little guy. He runs on a whole whack of AA and AAA batteries...
I guess "run" isn't the best word to describe his motions. His "perfect 2-foot walken" is very reminiscent of wind-up walking toys... and he moves maybe 1cm forwad with every step O.o
I wonder why they gave him the Pinocchio-nose... aside from the name, "Pino", it doesn't seem to serve any purpose... without it, it would've looked sleeker, with it... it reminds me of a robotic hummingbird. :P
