Not so good for my l33t computer skillz right now...
I just bought a couple of older pieces of eqiupment from Kinnon (memory and hard drive) so I can patch-up that clunker of a computer that Dad bought recently.
The memory doesn't fit the sockets >,< I need to find the memory chips that are "longer" than current-day memory... I think (??)
about 90 minutes later, I've attempted every possible configuration to get the system to boot off of Kinnon's hard drive, or even just have it loaded as a secondary so I can format it, then make it a bootable drive.
At one point, I even thought there wasn't any additional power supplies for hard drives or anything else - but there is an additional bay, and I found one - ONE - more power supply. I've had to pull out an IDE cable from my supply from this computer so I can get both drives into the Compaq's array (it comes with two singular IDE cables - one for the HD, one for the CD! How cheap!)
This is in no way a hit against Kinnon - it's just it's a Compaq clunker, and undoubtedly it's being difficult.
I'll go back to it tomorrow. I think I'll hook the hard drive up to this computer and low-level format it (FAT32, right?) and see if the computer will accept it then.

Good luck!

I'm going to format it in my computer and hope that lets the Compaq read it.
