Rock Concert Movement #8: The Blackout
Hee. Blue Man Group's concert rocked.
Do most concerts starts a full hour-and-a-half after the reported start time with an hour-and-a-half of filler bands? There was two groups ahead of it, althought both of them were integrated into the Blue Man Group's performance. Tracy Bonham and VenusHum were there, and they kicked off the set. Tracy Bonham's played a few songs I know, but VenusHum was brand-new to me.
While we were waiting, there were two LED screens that were fighting against each other. I couldn't read the right-hand sign very well (I was situated near the left-hand side) but it was telling the people that no cameras were to be used, no recording devices, etc... Meanwhile, the left-hand sign is telling us to ignore the right-hand sign and to YELL if you had sneaked in a videocamera. "Actually, don't yell, or else the authorities might find you. But good work for sneaking in a video camera. You can use a regular camera, too - just don't use a flash - they'll never know." XD
Rock Concert Movement #9: The Big Opening
The Blue Man Group appeared in style. Lots of strobe lights, heavy bass and drums (4 people on drums aside from the Blue Man Group!)
Like I figured, I didn't know the names of the songs, so I just went along with the beat.
The concept behind the Blue Man Group's Complex Tour was that they had purchased a guidebook/audiocasette explaining how to become big rock stars. It consisted of a number of Rock Concert Movements - Numbers 1, 2, and 3 were for the audience (The Basic Head Bob, The One-Armed Fist Pump, and The Up and Down Jumping Motion) while the rest were for the Blue Man Group themselves. I wish I could Remember Rock Concert Movement #237... or was it #273? XD
It must've rocked to have seats at the very front of the stage. Before the night was over, they had put a camera down someone's throat (they had this fiber-optic camera that they carried everywhere), invited a couple of people up on stage to dance, invited another person on-stage to introduce the band members (as the Blue Man Group don't talk), fired off two forms of streamers (a paper one which completely engulfed some people, and foil ones which I managed to grab one), and the Blue Man Group walked through the crowd several times. :)
The extra performers (Tracy Bonham and VenusHum) are also on The Complex CD, as well as a number of other guest singers. I like Sing Along with Dave Matthews. It's a simple song to well, sing along to XD
Rock Concert Movement #7: The Fake Ending
They left after a particularily ground-shaking number, and returned to play another set of 3 or 4 songs. The song I remember the most was the second-last song, because it was a cover of "Teenage Wasteland". I recognized it by its opening loop, which they were playing continuously through their backpack Tubulums. You're All Wasted.
I went primarily because the Blue Man Group's music is hard to visualize without actually seeing the materials or the instruments that they play. But now that I've seen them, I ended up purchasing both albums (Audio and The Complex) and a nice The Complex T-shirt. ^_^

*notices I have 6 chat windows open* geez, today was a busy chat day for me...
