Wow... I was sure right about the thunderstorm. As soon as I got out into my car, rain just drizzling, lightning started crashing down rather brightly. It illuminated the entire area every 30 seconds or so.
By the time I got onto the DVP, it started to rain hard. The lightning continued to crash to my left as I drove up the DVP.
As I made it to Eglinton, the rain became a torrental downpour. Everyone had slowed down to about half the normal speed, and the only lights I could see were the other cars, and very dispersed lighting from the massive overhead lights illuminating the Parkway. The rain, at this point, was drowning out my CD Player, and my entire view was brown with the rain-drenched air.
Everyone on the DVP slowly continued on their way, being extra cautious to the cars around them, as they attempted to keep to their lanes. Once we got to York Mills, the rain had let up, but even before that the lights around Lawrence were not on... our only illumination at that point was the car headlights. Lightning continued to flash occasionally to my west, like a gigantic strobe light. The thunder which followed shortly therefter shook my car harder than the rain.
The rain let up once I got off of the DVP and onto the 401, but the lightning continued its dance above me in a beautiful show of light purple and blue. Signs were up stating that due to construction, certain roads would be closed at midnight tonight. I doubt that any construction worker in their right mind would brave such weather to fix a road.
I eventually made it home, not seeing a single accident on the way home, and raced for my webcam. I was foolish to leave it at home today, and I wanted to capture the lightning as it boomed above the roof. I swiped it, set it to the movie setting and let it record.
Sadly, the lightning has mocked me. The storm has now passed on. No rain falls outside my windows, and only a few faint flickers of what was once a mighty storm showed its face on the house across the street. The webcam didn't even pick up its glitter.
Ah well, it was the worst driving condition that I have ever been in. Undoubtedly, weathermen all across Toronto are going to say that this was the worst storm that Toronto has ever had since the last time. When I get old (as if I wasn't already), I'll be spouting off how I braved the storm of '03 in my car. ^_^

But I also thought it was an incredibly cool night out, all things considered. I love watching thunderstorms. And I was right in the middle of it :)
