So yeah, here I am talking more about work, but I'm continuing to be happy. Just a touch nervous. See, now that I've returned back to The Beach, the other manager is now off to get her Bakery Training. We just haven't had the time to get to this since being hired-on, and with the rush of Christmas now over and the stores being less busy (this is a quiet time for any business that relies on walk-ins), we have some opportunity to move around the stores a bit and learn what we should have learned back in August. No worries on the lateness - better late than never, right?
With Nicole on Bakery Training, that leaves me in charge of The Beach store, though. Yes, all by my lonesome. And the store opened up about a year ago, so we're having an Anniversary Party to celebrate, so I've been tasked with that on top of running the show. (For anyone keeping track, it'll be on January 28th, approximately from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 pm.) I've been thinking about how to spread the word around the Beaches, as well as figuring out just how to celebrate. I can't just go about and drop prices on things, but what I can do is get some more people visiting the store. I'm planning to have one of the bakers from another store come by on the day in question and he's going to do balloon animals for the kids (hidden talents=awesome). Christine has suggested a cake and hot chocolate (which is wise, since it's hard to have outdoor activities in the middle of ... "winter". I write it in parenthesis since we've had roughly 2 days of snow, and none of it has stayed). Streamers and balloons, naturally...
However, I really have nothing to be nervous about. The store has been acting well with the other manager running the show, I put together the Production for Saturday and it exceeded expectations while I wasn't even there! I've been dedicating a lot of downtime to thinking about the store recently, and while it has been impacting my relaxation somewhat, the fact that I can access e-mails from home allows me to fire-off messages when I get something in my head and that calms me almost more than a game can. I tell you, I have no idea how I got by without my smartphone. Did I mention I got a smartphone recent-- (here, you respond with a loud "YES! WE GET IT SHEESH, WHAT COLOUR IS IT, GRAPE?")
And once she's done the Training, theoretically I'll go on the training for 4-6 weeks. That'll be good - I need to perfect my French Baguettes. (I keep degassing them.) I wonder what things will be like in two/three months from now when we're both trained-up...
Oh yes, and the other reason for writing today. I took the day today to get my CPR and AED First Aid Training from St. John's Ambulance, so now I'm certified to practice First Aid in an Emergency setting, something I wanted to get to make sure our store had all the bases covered. As I mentioned on my Twitter though, the instructional videos that I watched had opening graphics and high-energy music that made me think that I was playing Trauma Team. I don't think this was the intended result with the videos. (At least, the videos didn't cover any situations on Kyriaki outbreaks.)

I picture a french baquette, but it's... flat and empty. So it looks like a sleeping bag.

Ever seen a Turkish Bread (http://cobsbread.com/product.aspx?id=1801)? It uses the same "Poolish" starter as a French Baguette but it's flatter and baked with Olive Oil. It's also kinda sleeping-bag-ish. XD
