The reason behind this post came from a post from Sankaku Complex that the Steam Forums were hacked, and there is a chance that some credit card information was revealed (although the Steam Forums and Steam itself are two separate entities). If you've got a Steam account, you may want to keep an eye on your credit cards, just in case.

As I saw this post in the morning, I figured that I should check my credit card and make sure there wasn't any problematic usages before going off to my Japanese class. Hacking-wise it was fine, but I happened to notice that Bell charged me $116 instead of the standard $30 for my land line.

After spending a few minutes waiting for Bell's website to load (for an internet company, they sure do have a slow website), I discovered that Bell is trying for one more final eff-you by charging me for the modem I supposedly didn't return. Problem is, I returned it the day after they sent out the return-shipping label, and I saw it was received two days after that. If they're expecting me to hold on to a tracking number for three months after a successful delivery, I'd hate to see the problems that the company has for unsuccessful ones.

Of course, the Billing department wasn't open during the time I was dealing with this (before 9 in the morning), so I have to call them and dispute it later - maybe tomorrow, probably Monday.

While I'm on the phone with them, I'm going to cancel my landline, too. When I was working with them, $17 (discounted) didn't seem so bad, but now it's $30 since I don't work with them anymore. I can get cheaper from my Internet provider (and hell, I switched away from Bell's internet to TekSavvy for a better deal there, too), and honestly, for just a land line with no extra features, $30 is not great value - heck, it isn't even good value.

Did I ever mention that following my leave from the company, Bell also overpaid me for my vacation days and was going to send me to Collections if I didn't pay them back? Nice work, Bell. You've really gone and pulled out all the stops in making me hate the company I spent five years of my life on. I've taken the stock that I collected over this time and I've invested it in more hopeful futures.

Since I'm talking phones, I looked into smartphones again recently. I'd still like to get the Samsung Galaxy S II (which is available on my current provider), but it's expensive, and maybe the Galaxy S Vibrant will be all I need for My First Smartphone. I've noticed that WINDMobile has a $29 for Unlimited Talk-Text-Data for a year (and it goes to $45 after that), but they have no contracts, but they also don't have the Galaxy S II - they do have the Nexus S, though. I pay $20 a month for just Talk (texts are extra, and since I have a "Dumbphone", I don't use data) so $29 seems like a decent upgrade, especially since that even includes Canada-wide calling...

I did some mental math with these "Tabs" though. Both of them offer a $200 or $500 "Tab" that takes 10% from your monthly statement and applies it towards the cost of the phone. But I realized, if I had a $200 Tab on the Galaxy S II, and I had a $25 monthly bill, that's $2.50 a month on the Tab, or $30 a year. That means it would take me seven years to pay off the Tab. And I thought the cellphone 3 year contracts were bad! (Though, WIND promises that after 3 years, the Tab's automatically paid-off, so that's a nice touch.)

[livejournal.com profile] bassbeast chated with me about this awhile back, and while I was thinking of moving to Mobilicity as they were offering a $25 Talk-Text-Data plan, he mentioned their network is slow and weak. I don't know anything about cellphone carriers or their power levels or anything like that, but I have heard good things about WIND (and that they've recently hit one-million subscribers)... geez, such decisions!

Anyhow, I must get to bed, I've gotta get to work at 9 in the morning. See you later!
