It's been a couple of days since Halloween, but I just had to talk about something I've had on my mind the past few nights. Mainly, the fact that I saw Ghostbusters on a theatre screen. :D

This was the theatre's first showing for their "Most Wanted Mondays", and it was appropriate to have it on Halloween night. Other movies they're going to show over the next couple of months are The Godfather, Top Gun (?), and Raiders of the Lost Ark. Not a bad lineup - well, except for Top Gun... there's gotta be bigger movies to bring back Hot Shots, maybe?

Watching the movie on the bigscreen felt less like a "re-premiere" and more like a large gathering of friends. I'll admit, I loved that there were a couple of Ontario Ghostbusters members there in full regalia, there was also a ghost (white sheet, two eyeholes cut out of it), and an Inspector Gadget (complete with pinky-flashlight). What surprised me was that they weren't that rambunctious - no loud shouts of "Ghost Busters!" during the opening song, or doing a Rocky Horror on-stage. Of course, it was great to see the lines being spoken that we've remembered for 26 years. Then, there was this scene:

It was at this point that [livejournal.com profile] sandwichboy leaned over, and, thinking he was gonna quote something, instead quipped "You remind me of Ray sometimes." Being a fanboy, I can't say I don't have that enthusiasm. ^^

Just watching the movie is making me want to play the Commodore 64 version again (because now I know how to stop Stay-Puft from demolishing all those buildings, I never knew when I was a kid), as well as the newer Xbox game (again) since they revisit all the places from the first movie. I've been told the Wii version (despite having cartoonish characters) is more fun because your damage is all over the place, just like a real uncontrollable proton stream would be, compared to the straight-lines of an analog stick.

I'm really hoping that Ghostbusters 3 is actually being developed and it's not just an internet rumour. It would be great to see them back in action after all this time. :)

~~
Now, back to games (aren't I always talking games?) - just thinking about the Ghostbusters games is making me think about Child's Play Charity, since they just launched their new website and their donation drive. Last year, I was trying to do a Rock Band-a-Thon which never got anywhere, but may this year I could do something like an all-day streaming-from-home Rock Band marathon. The tricky thing is how to stream my TV to the intarwebs, and also what incentive would people have to tune in? Maybe if they donate some money (say, $5 to start) then they could choose a song to play. I think this was my idea from before (which would slowly increase over time, like $5 for the first hour, $6 for the second, $7 for the third, etc)... I'd just have to make sure that I have enough time on my days off to handle it :P Maybe I'll take a page from Desert Bus and increase it exponentially, so that we're not stuck with 100 songs and half an hour before I have to go back to work. :P

I missed the screenings in NYC sadly :( They kept holding them on weeknights in obscure weird theaters while I was still at work. No weekend screenings. WTF WHY I would have loved to hit up a theater screening in NYC!!! Too bad they couldn't use the actual Firehouse :D Glad you had fun!!!

Originally, all I could find was at obscure theatres outside of the city, too - until [livejournal.com profile] bunnyhero noted it on his Twitter, and I happened to read it.

I'm not sure if this "Most Wanted Mondays" thing is going to be spread further than just the Scotiabank Theatre (which is Cineplex-owned), but it's definitely a great way to get some people back in the seats :)

Of ALL places, NYC should've had it EVERYWHERE! I'm sorry to hear you couldn't go :( There's always next year!
