I'm very tired tonight. Again, you wouldn't know how tired I am if you saw me at work, though. :D

Today was Day One for my week of working at Newmarket. This store definitely is a busier store -- or maybe it was just a good day. The store is wider, allowing more of the shelves and cases to showcase more of the awesome breads that are made, and they make a different variety of items (including Lekkerbrot, Pumpernickel, and mini-foccacias versus the full-size ones that Bloor West sells).

I try to adapt to everything that everyone asks of me when I enter a new work environment. Even before the manager, Jocelyn, had arrived, I was already in my outfit, starting to bag some of the hamburger and hotdog buns (which looked much larger than the ones at the Bloor West Village location, admittedly - this store's products looked much puffier, which may be related to the water, proofing or elevation). I learned a few new opening duties such as icing products (I'm proud to say that all the chocolate croissants I iced were gone by the time I left), remembering to re-shout whenever hot items come out of the oven ("fresh hot whole wheat! ring bell"), handle customers first and foremost... it's a lot to take in but I'm doing alright. It's really making me tired at night though; I really just don't want to do anything else for the rest of the day!

I updated my schedule just a touch, as there was only one closing evening shift this week, and Jocelyn wants me to run the closings on my own (!) to get a handle for them, so yeah. They're pushing me through these things quickly. :D She also told me, as she won't be around for the weekend, that she's really impressed with how quickly I'm absorbing the information I'm given, and how responsive I am to learning. I keep telling them, it's because I have the passion for the job (and that's why it shows). :D

This reminds me, I have a few courses I need to take on their online learning tool, Bakersville. Yes, that's what they call it. :) Some of the courses I can't take online (like First Aid Training) - I'll have to contact my regional manager about those. Noted!

Really, when it comes down to it, if you're not enjoying your work, you really should take a step back and wonder. What's safe, and what's going to make you happy? Is there something ahead of you that will make you happy? Or should you really think about where you are, and is it really worth your time? Life's short, you should be enjoying what you do. I originally thought it would be nice to have lots of money, but really, I've put that aside for a bit to pursue this with the thought of someday owning a bakery. Yes, I come home exhausted, I come home exhausted and happy, satisfied knowing that I'm putting in hard work for something that makes other happy, too. :D

I am really so fascinated with the dramatic change in you ever since you've started working at Cobs. And yes, you are tired when you get home but the serenity when you smile can't be faked. Bell really was taking its toll out on you (mind the pun!) and I'm so happy that you've found yourself something that makes you this happy. I think a change of scenery was exactly what you needed and I hope this enthusiasm continues for years to come. You truly inspire me :)

I will pay to have that last paragraph bronzed and framed if I have to. You have no idea how proud we all are of you and your incredible accomplishments.

I'm remembering a certain conversation in Fashion Mall over overpriced subs about where we would be within a year. Isn't it amazing how prophetic that was? Keep rocking, proofing, and looking forward to Wonderlanding.

It all sounds lovely and delicious. ;)

Definitely go for the first-aid training as soon as possible. There are few things quite as omni-useful for an employee as having an up to date first-aid certificate. Especially in retail, or someplace where hours are on a schedule and/or not always regular because there are always rules about having a certain number of first-aid-trained people on the premises no matter where you work.

Also, I'm glad to see you so happy and free of the black funk that was starting to follow you around. Bread is obviously good for you. ^.^

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] bassbeast; that last paragraph is beautiful, inspiring, and so very true. When you spend 90% of your waking life at your place of employment, well, it's generally good to try and strive to be where you'll be enjoying yourself alongside bringing home the bacon :)

I am so incredibly grateful that I am currently in a place where I can honestly say I love what I do. (my commute on the other hand...)
