I've caught something from a co-worker who caught it from someone else, so I've been self-imposed to stay in bed all day. Of course, staying in bed makes me think...

A little discussion with [livejournal.com profile] davidn on his journal brought up the branching paths that people take as they progress through life. DavidN's just going through that right now and I just posted a comment that I think I've mentioned before, but I can't remember (and honestly, my memory recall has failed me so much!)...

I had wanted to work at U8TV when I was in college, and I had the opportunity to intern there, but at the same time, CTV (our biggest national broadcaster, for those who don't know) was looking for someone from our college who was "good with computers" for the Degrassi High revival series - which the entire class pointed to me.

Despite being able to do what they asked of me at Degrassi (I distinctly remember being asked if I could create a "blank screen on a laptop" and I explained to them the Photoshop method, which was too complex for them, so I explained the HTML method), I went with U8TV since, at the time, it was part of the Reality phase of TV, Survivor was going strong, Big Brother was only in its second season, and I felt it was going to survive longer.

I was with U8TV for roughly a year, moving into the second year before it folded (citing lack of advertising revenue, they were ahead of the internet curve), where I jumped to Salt + Light then to Bell, and meanwhile Degrassi has been going strong for 10 seasons and still going, and even had a cameo from Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes...

I wonder what would have happened to my life if I had taken the other path, fresh out of the gate from college. However, I have to wonder if I would have stuck with Degrassi for so long, or thanks to Christine, gone to Japan or even considered taking my Baking course...

Ahh, life is strange, isn't it?

Welcome to Life 101. There are HUGE forks in the road, and you always wonder about the Path Not Taken.

Personally, the big two are when Alex Ward, creative director for Criterion Studios in England, gave me his business card at E3 and wanted to talk to me. However, later that day, I had the fateful lunch with Alex Rigopulous and LOST THE CARD! I could have been working in England at a game studio, so who knows. But then, business wouldn't be where it is now, and I wouldn't have the music community I've built.

The other of the big two is my choice in universities. Looking back, I'm not happy about the education I received from U of T for the most part. But if I didn't go there, I wouldn't have met Erin.

You're right; life is strange. ^_^
