Okay, first off I should post this for the anime fans as it's needed to be acted on now - Win a chance to see Evangelion 2.0 - You Can (Not) Advance in theatres across Canada. It's a simple entry form, no skill-testing questions, and hey, it's free, right? :D
So a few days ago I posted an article on
videogame_tales about Gerry The Germ and how bizarre that game is - the discussions that resulted from that made me revisit the game and try to find the programmer/creator. I found one cryptic line upon startup, "MD Software", which after Googling, revealed a great deal of information on one Mevlut Dinc ("MD"). I found that he's still active and gave permission to distribute that game, and cool, I haven't figured out any more information about it, but I sent off an e-mail to Mevlut's current studio, in hopes that I could talk with him a little bit about it. It's such a bizarre game and I love it.
Also, I've been following a lot of games that
davidn has been suggesting. I tried Digital: A Love Story, and well... yeah. I'm a sucker for games like this. It was cool to have an interface with a simple modem phone-dialer (which you had to manually enter the numbers you wanted to call) and an e-mail system that predates today's e-mail, but that feel and the story (especially the story, it's been a while while the plot felt engaging) was just incredible. It's a good hour, hour-and-a-half visual novel, and I really had a great time playing it.
Speaking of engaging plotlines, I've been playing 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors (after managing to get through Professor Layton and the Unwound Future - 5770 Picarats, and 165/198 Hintcoins, if anyone's keeping track. Those last few sliding-tile puzzles felt easier this time around, I think they rewired my brain a bit). Half of the game is a Visual Novel with a touch of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure, and the other half of the game is an "Escape the Room" design - and just like Escape games, you have to search every item in the room to find everything, which frustrates me but I've gotten the hang of it. However, the plotline of 999 is incredibly involved. As a review by JewWario notes, 80-90% of the game is reading. I kinda feel like I'm reading a book, but I like this. I don't read enough and this is a nice change of pace, but the story has so many hooks in it that I just can't put the game down. I've been told that there are multiple endings, and the "True" ending is hidden in there somewhere, so I'm really looking forward to actually playing this over and over. (You can't say that with many games - and definitely not with books, for the most part.) I plan to get to bed and play it for a little while before turning in.
Here's an odd link that I've left open for whenever I planned to make a post: The Year in Rock Band names. There are some incredibly silly names on this list, and unless your workplace appreciates you laughing at some names like "Big Fuckin Skull" or "Pterodacdudes" or "Kevin Troy Boy Toy And The Almost Virgins Pajama Party", I'd say it's NSFW. ^^
It's about time! The definitive Reboot Collection is coming to DVD soon! I'm not surprised that it's a Shout!Factory production. *adds to wishlist*
In Bakery-related news, I sent off a package to
zillabean to see if the packaging job I did managed to create will keep the cookies fresh. Fingers crossed and we'll see how they travel, too. I'm also planning to visit OMG Baked Goodness at some point, but that's for another entry sometime.
I never did a list of the Christmas gifts I received!
- Christine found me a few things that I've been waiting for: The Cake Boss Season 1 DVD, Buddy Valastro's book "Mia Familglia", and "How to Start a Food-Based Business", as I had taken the book out from the Library and hate having to return them when they have such valuable tips.
- Dave and Erin got me Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for the XBox and deBlob for the Wii - apparently they're discontinuing deBlob so it would be wise to pick it up if you were wanting a copy. ^^
-
ravenworks sent me Deadly Premonition - I keep hearing about this game, about how it's hit-and-miss but when it hits, it's incredible. I haven't had a time to play on my Xbox for a little while, though (and yes, I've been absorbed by Layton and 999 so I need to find some downtime to play. :D
- Blastgoggles gifted me Super Meat Boy on Steam. I'm just waiting for a wireless Xbox adapter for the PC to show up here so that I can actually control the fast blob of meat. XD
- My sister got my a Gourmet Magazine "Cookie of the Year" cookbook. This has a list of cookies, one per year, from 1941-2009. The collection is incredibly diverse and it will be a lot of fun to try out a few recipes from the older times.
- My parents - somehow - found a Kinect for Me and Christine. This was the hardest thing to find before the Christmas season, and to be honest, I'm amazed and floored that they got this. I'm also floored by the fact that I can sit on the couch, wave my hand around, and run through a menu. It feels eerie and f'ing awesome at the same time.
And that's all I have to say today. I know I should say more - you know what i want? A way to archive my Tweets locally, so that I can look back at them and have a little more to say here. Just like Raven, all my little thoughts aren't being consolidated here anymore! They're all broken apart in a Twitter feed. I'll try to post more often, promise!

I always meant to go and look at Reboot again... mostly because CITV in Britain stopped showing it a scant few episodes after the monster-of-the-week cycle ended and the writers went mad, leaving me to wonder what happened in this entirely new series that had suddenly replaced the old one.

I liked the computer analogues (hah) in the show, and seeing that the show debuted when I was still a young sprite, I grew along with it, fascinated with the CG abilities of the artists, even though the show looks extremely dated by today's standards. (Just like real computers!)
If you're intrigued to get even further confused, there's a Reboot web comic (http://reboot.com/index/launch/content/paradigms-lost) that was made by fans a few years back. It was sponsored by the owners of the license to judge popularity in the property - and they were suggesting a full-length theatrical movie, as well. Like many fandoms, the Reboot fandom seems to be rather small but devoted.

Ooooh I think you beat my Picarat score! BUT I WILL HAVE MY DAY, SIR. *shakes fist* Once I... finish that blasted Parrot minigame *sobs* I only have 4 deliveries left! FOUR! I can't get Beacon his damned hat... That game is freaking HARD :(
Also, I THINK that you package was slated for delivery yesterday!!!! I came home to a "sorry we missed you slip" which signifies they TRIED to deliver... something, but since I wasn't home I couldn't sign for it. The slip had very little information but it mentioned it was from CA, so I'm guessing that must be yours! I hope I manage to snag it today!!!!!
