This evening I was told about the passing of Mark Dailey. This was a shock to me, and a shock to everyone in the city who knows him. Dailey was known as "The Voice" of CityTV, and worked all over the CityTV station, covering the police beat in the early 80s to sitting at the newsdesk the past few years. Even those who didn't know him likely were aware of his voice.

Mark Dailey worked for 31 years at CityTV, for as long as I have been alive. He had battled prostate cancer and defeated it 4 years ago, but kidney cancer ultimately took him from us this afternoon. He was 57.

I would have to say that CityTV has always been an inspiration to me - a local TV station that had a sense of humour (which came from Mark's random banters inbetween shows), and The Voice was always there, always present. CityTV's station identification will never be the same without The Voice,

There is a 30-minute tribute on the CityTV news site, located here. If you knew of Mark in any regard at all, I think you should take a moment to watch the video to learn a little bit more about the man who brought humour, seriousness, compassion, and an incredible heart to CityTV.

We will miss you, Mark. We miss you already.
