So, there I was, sitting at work, watching The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo when all of a sudden I realize that my chair is swinging back and forth a bit, an inch to the left, an inch to the right. I didn't think anything of it, but since yesterday I heard thunder and it was coming from the ceiling and this was come from below-ground, I kinda looked about when people started asking "do you feel that?"
Was that an earthquake?
Stepping into action, I leapt up from my chair, and started walking towards the door to the room, wanting to ask others what they're feeling. The lunchroom had people looking up at the lights as they were swaying a bit. Others were coming out of their rooms and asking the exact same question... what just happened? Did Toronto have an earthquake?
At this point, the shaking had stopped, so I returned to my desk and tweeted. It was my first logical response. Within a minute, my Twitter feed lit up with all the other Toronto Twitterites posting their two cents on the situation. My coworkers in the room started to access websites, and noticed that CP24 was hammered and 680 News hadn't updated on the situation. (They didn't update until a full hour after the fact.)
I came back home, wondering how bad things were here. As it stands, it wasn't too bad - but one of my first observations was a small plastic hand was on the floor. It turns out, all the knickknacks that lined the shelf above the TV came crashing down - a large poster (no glass, thank goodness), a Freddie Mercury figure, the two WALL-E figures (Wall-E and Eve, each missing an arm, thankfully fixable), and my Wallace figurine from Curse of the Were-Rabbit (where the missing hand was unfortunately dislocated from). EVE scuffed the TV on the way down and now has some Battle Damage. Thankfully, nothing was damaged.
I don't remember experiencing any earthquakes in Toronto before, but they have happened in the past. It's just my memory is crap.
(In other news, there are 90-Minute Anniversary Reflections and T-Shirts now available.)
