I hope that I didn't upset too many people with my little April 1st joke. ^^ And from April Fool's, we go into ...

Happy Easter Weekend! I've spent the day baking in preparation for our family's Easter Dinner tomorrow night. (Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] hysteriachan for the reminder that I still should be posting here on top of Twitter. Also, thank you for the strange link about the request to not send Kinder Suprises into the US as they are banned.)

First off was an attempt at making a sourdough bread. Yesterday I had made the loaf from the starter, and left it to rise until this morning. It didn't rise as much as I expected it to - and actually, didn't really rise much once it was in the oven, either. The result is a very, very dense loaf of bread, but it does taste like sourdough. Methinks I will be revisiting the Sourdough starter and going from there.

Next up is the Easter Cake. I have this great cake recipe (that calls for a lot of butter and a lot of eggs) which took a good hour to bake. Thankfully, I managed to make the Buttercream frosting (a whole lot of it) as well as prepare some different cookie doughs for tomorrow so that I can bring some Buttons/Cuppies for tests as well as the finished cake. The Buttons/Cuppies will be baked tomorrow as I start frosting the cakes (or maybe seperately, as I just kinda realized that I need a lot of piping bags for both projects and I currently own three).

I went through 3 bricks of butter, 6 cups of white sugar, 6 cups of flour, 16 cups of icing sugar, and 18 eggs this afternoon. o.o

Pictures will come later, as I haven't taken pictures yet and I will when I bring them out tomorrow for frosting. :)

(I really do need a Baking Userpic. It seems to be all I talk about these days.)

I didn't know Kinder Surprise was banned in the US?!!?!

(You have two closing tags for your italics there for "lots of eggs" :X)

Thanks for the correction, I knew I forgot to double-check my work :P

I had no idea about the Kinder Surprise, either! I figured that since it's safe in Canada... but I guess that's not the case. How very bizarre. I wonder what other candies/toys that we have that US citizens don't?

My pleasure :P

I know they don't have choco-Smarties, their Smarties are dry candy like rockets, sorta.

That particular fact threw me for such a loop when I moved up here. Closest I got to culture shock really. That and milk in bags.

Though I -do- remember getting Wonderballs in the U.S. when I was younger. I wonder if those have been banned as well. They're basically the same damn thing, just in ball shape.

Apparently they were pulled in '97 due to the choking hazard of the plastic toy inside - but Wonder Balls returned in 2000 with candy instead.

I love those things. But it's really weird to see that they don't have the choco-Smarties there, especially since M&Ms are all over the place.

We have *tons* of candies they don't :X I can't remember anymore, but I looked it up at one point, and was surprised what I found... like, they don't have Aeros for instance!

No Aeros? See, now that is just bizarre.

Like, I can understand the "choking hazard" thing with Kinder Surprise (well, no, I can't actually, since it takes a lot of strength to open that plastic capsule, no 3-year-old could get into that) but why Aeros? A corporate decision, perhaps?

Your mention of looking it up just turned up this forum post (http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-64436.html) first - and I'm seeing some strange stuff, too. No Caramilk! Apparently Coffee Crisp, even. Maybe more of the "Cadbury Canada" (which is a subsidiary of the UK company) products aren't in the States.

I remember seeing a product called "Lion" which was UK-only... might still have the wrapper around here, actually. This may warrant a whole other LJ post!

For sure! Plus, the differences between the Canadian and European versions of the candy... (which include, but are not limited to, chocolate quality!)
