Christine and I had gone to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery on Friday, located in Buffalo. It was a long drive there (about 2.5 hours each way!) but it was well worth it. :)

The artist featured in the Gallery was Petah Coyne, who has a number of larger-than-life figures splayed across several rooms. Of which, I found the most stunning was a piece called Daphne (if that link doesn't work, copy-n-paste the link). It was based on a Roman Myth of which Apollo was struck by Cupid's Arrow, which made him fall in love with Daphne, but Daphne was struck with a lead arrow, causing her to run from love. As she cried to be saved from Apollo, she was turned into a tree. The piece is incredible, made up of what I can assume is wax, tar, and hundreds of hand-crafted roses encasing a marble figure. A few birds were also trapped in the piece, which fascinated me. They stared at you as you looked at the piece.

There were several other pieces that caught my attention. I think the coolest was this Neon Wall, where every set of 4 circles was blinking or fading in its own mesmerizing pattern. There was a room made entirely of mirrors that had a table and chair (also made of mirrors) within - a fascinating piece of work. An ntitled piece by Lee Bontecou reminds me of Half-Life-2, and I have a strange feeling there was a bit of inspiration taken from this piece for the game. It has their ar of creepiness. Claes Oldenburg had a piece called Soft Manhattan #1 (Postal Zones), and all the canvas pouches were stuffed and hung from the wall. The design was the Postal Areas of Manhattan, with Central Park in the very center. There was this fascinating piece on the wall leading up to the second floor, but unfortunately I do not know the artist or the name of the piece. Just before reaching the Petah Coyne pieces, we found a massive 10-foot-tall table and chairs, which permitted us to walk underneath it and revive memories of our childhood (which was the artists' intention). Again, I did not remember to get the artists' name or the title. Christine has a picture of the tables, so I expect she'll put it up at some point. :) I think we spent about 5-6 hours in there. There was so much to look at (an original Jackson Pollack, as well), and it was a lot of fun. :D

I also recently picked up Animal Crossing: Wild World to celebrate our 10th month anniversary (and since the two of us are hooked on it, I'd say it was a good present :P). If anyone's wanting to come play with us in tikitown, my friend code is 2405-9047-7367. :D

God, my Internet connection is terribly wonky right now...
