The origins of the Smiley (also known as the Emoticon). Apparently it was 20 years old about a week ago. ^_^

Yeah. Apparently about a week ago some professors were looking through some backlogs from 20 years ago that stated that some jokes (for example, an elevator emergency) were being taken seriously. So, one of the professors suggested that they put ":-)" at the end of the joke so that they could recognize it.

The anniversary was on the 19th of September. Happy 20th birthday, Smiley! ^_^
