Pick up EmuPack 3, which has a ton of emulators on it, and the SNES one is good enough that I can play Super Metroid on it. Also, are you changing the PSP clock speed to 333mHz, and changing the frame skip to "auto"? Those will make a HUUUUUUUUGE difference in the quality of gameplay. I'm still having trouble playing some FX chip games as well as games that have huge sprites in them (like Street Fighter), but overall, I'm quite happy.
