So the first day is over, and I have learned a LOT in the short 8 hours that I was working there. I have been shadowing Laura, the Senior/Team Leader there, and I've learned about how to process the cash for the previous day (man, shades of Canadian Tire's Cash Office, just more up-to-date!), and heck, I made the daily bank deposit, too. :)
As I was working the closing shift, most of the day's baking was done, so I was focusing on the retail, learning their cash register (what's called a Versaterm), and while I had trouble finding a lot of the particular items at first, once they handed me a Production List (what they made that day) I had to spend some time trying to find all the items so that they could be entered. Once I got that down, the rest of the day was awesome. :D (I still need to get the terminology down for all the different breads - cobs, buns, rolls, vienna, baguette, baps, loaf, mini-loaf, scroll, and so on!)
The closing requires a lot of cleanup, and COBS donates all its leftover bread to a local charity daily -- and they come in to take it, so we don't even have to worry about it! :D We just clean up the breadcrumbs that're left behind. XD I can handle dealing with the customers and keeping the retail front clean (and we did a major cleanup today in the middle of it all since the Ontario Manager and the VP stopped by for a visit!)
Near the end of the day, Laura had said that she may not be in as she kinda slipped/fell earlier, but she felt that I was pretty confident in handling myself for a day on my own -- what I remember was that the said "You don't look like you've been here only for a day, you look like you've been here for a couple of weeks already." In spirit, definitely. ^^

You may have noticed the new icon that replaced the other Baking Layton that I had up for awhile.
zillabean offered to draw a new Baking Layton for me, and I just couldn't say no! In less than a week with a little back-and-forth, and just prior to my new start, this shows up in my inbox, and I'm totally floored by it. I still keep going back to it and looking at it. :D (You know what I should do next? Mimic the pose with a COBS Bread Cob. XD)
