So
ravenworks links to a vegetable called
Romanesco, which appears to be made naturally of
fractals. I commented on
his short post about it, mentioning that I would eat that, but I'll stay away from the orange and purple cauliflowers that I've seen in the stores lately.
I thought those were merely coloured cauliflower, dyed orange and purple so that they woud be more appealing to children. I was also perplexed as to how the company called themselves "Nature's Valley" or something like that, since dyeing a food isn't exactly natural.
Turns out that I'm incorrect. According to the wikipedia, there are Orange and Purple varieties that are mutant strains of the original due to the presence of additional Vitamin A or Anthocyanin, respectively. Yikes. I never thought it. It's
natural. There goes my brain, I thought Cauliflower would remain white forever in my mind.
While we're on the subject of food, I have seen commercials for products called Umami. However, after looking it up, I have discovered that Umami is apparently a
proposed fifth taste, a "savoury" flavour. I'm curious.
Admittedly I'm also a little confused and I'm starting to get into that "I don't get the kids these days" rants where things are changing, which is scary because I never though I'd be one of
them. "A
fifth taste sensor? And how can a cat be diagnosed with OCD these days, anyhow?"
