So yesterday, One of the only things that I had to do was get my car in for a regular maintenance and checkup, but I had an issue with the drive system making a high-pitched squeal when I turned the steering wheel.
So, I took it in at 10:00, and did the Oil Change and an Inspection for that. I'm told (as per the usual) to come back in an hour and they'll go from there.
I head out in the Yonge and Steeles area, exchange my Yen back to Canadian Dollars, return the Power Adapter (since it's a Down-converter designed for England, not Japan, there's no such such as a Up-converter), buy a fuse for my oven (oh yeah, I'll have to tell that story too), and generally waste some time.
I come back around 11:00 and they found the following:
The squeaking came from a turning shaft problem; under warranty
Oil Change still needs to be done
Regular Inspection still needs to be done
However, they discovered while they were fixing the steering shaft that the battery is leaking. O_o Yummy. So they had to replace the battery while they were at it, as well. So, they send me over to the Rent-A-Car area and I have to get a loaner.
Now, being that it was Easter Monday, a lot of the cars were already loaned out. And when I mean "a lot" I meant "all of". They tell me to go wait in the cafeteria while they get us another car, as they were calling for cars from other locations.
So I go there and wait, playing Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Around 12:30 (90 minutes later) I realize that I haven't been called for a car yet, so I head back over to the Rent-A-Car and tell them that I'm going to walk around for another hour.
I wander rather aimlessly for another hour, and come back, and the Rent-A-Car is - incredulously enough - still out of cars. They have, however, started renting cars from other companies so I end up driving another company's car.
Has anyone driven a Montana before? I was given one as my loaner since the repairs were going to take until mid-afternoon. Compare it to my Cavalier and suddenly, I feel like I'm riding a horse on wheels. I'm about 4-5 feet higher than if I'm in my car.
Anyways, it was a hoot to drive that for a few hours. I went home and... and realized that I had given my entire keyring to the repairshop, so I couldn't get into my house. Didn't realize it until I was walking up to the door that I had no way to get inside. :S Thankfully I had something to do - I picked up Christine and helped her move some stuff from her parents' place. With that thing I managed a really good amount of space for transport.
So, in the end, it was fun, I liked driving it, and I almost didn't want to give it up for my old car. But I like my Amaterasu too much...
Oven Fuse - so, two nights ago we were planning on having Chili for dinner with a few friends (Dave, Brandi, and Mike). I had made Chili earlier and wanted to reheat it, so I tried to plug it back into the oven, but when I returned later, the Crock-Pot hadn't heated back up. I did a few tests on the stovetop and discovered that the stovetop elements worked, but the oven/stovetop plug did not. O_o So I went and hooked up the Crock-Pot elsewhere and started some further investigating. I found a small panel in the front that I was not aware of initially that covers a set of 7 fuses. Heh, and I thought I would never need to ever see a fuse again! There were 2 fuses for each system (Left burners, Right burners, Oven) and one more which I have no idea what it's used for. I looked at the Oven fuses and discovered that one of the fuses, aside from all of them oxidizing (man, these fuses are ancient), one of the ones for the oven looked burnt-out and the metal part looked like it was missing a large chunk of metal. O_o So thankfully we didn't need to use the oven that night, but I went out and grabbed replacement fuses for all the systems, just in case.
And after all this, I have discovered that the new fuses didn't fix anything - I think I might have mentioned this before, but my oven is a bit tempermental. I had this problem before - the oven wouldn't turn on. As it stood, the automatic timer was on for some reason and therefore the oven wouldn't turn on until the appointed time. All I had to do was turn that timer off and it worked again. Well, that was the same problem. *rollseyes* Well, I'm replacing that fuse anyhow. And probably going to clean the fuses, since they've oxidized. And since I should probably turn off the power to the stove and the circuit breaker's not labelled, I think now would be a good time to label them circuit breakers...
