The
TTC's hiking fares again, but not on their Metropass or Transferable Weekly Pass. It's rising from $2.25 to $2.50 for cash, and buying them in packs of ten goes up from $1.90 each to $2.00. (Thanks for the link, Shanen. ^_^)
Amazing, considering they've been all pestering the government for more money -
and got some - and still are raising their fares.
Over the past few weeks, I have been reading letters (upset ones, of course) about the poor service of the TTC in the Metro newspaper. Some of them are talking about the fare hike, some of them are talking about the numerous problems and stalling that's occured over the past few weeks (I've had a few, some lasted about 5-10 minutes). Most of them are saying something to the effect of "I'm going to start taking my car again" or even the extreme "I'm going to buy a car".
And they expect to lose about 2 million riders due to the fare hike. For me, it's still cheaper than parking downtown, but it's sure as hell not as convenient when going anywhere other than downtown. Parking and Gas is about $8-10 a day and it takes 30 minutes for me to get to work, and the TTC is $5 a day but also costs more time (about an hour). *sigh*
Where was I going with this? Um... I can't remember. ><
Anyhow, I'll be stocking up on tokens shortly. I'll just stop by the ticket collector every day for a few days and pick up 10, because they're stingy (stihn-gee... how is that spelled?) and won't sell more than 10 at a time, and the automatic machines are all mysteriously "out of order" all of a sudden...
Kinnon had a
good point lately, too - the TTC advertises on the subway cars and in the buses the benefits of having a metropass - but I agree that they're targeting the wrong people - they should be targeting those
not on the buses, the ones in their cars, and not the people who have already bought their pass and are being asked to buy passes... >< (In the comments, Mike mentions payment for distance travelled, much like GO Transit, and it seems to be dirt-cheap. 12 cents a kilometer? Wow.)
Kenson also mentioned the
San Fransisco system (search in that page for "public transportation"), which is time-based (meaning you can hop off, shop somewhere, and hop back on, as long as the ticket hasn't expired, unlike the TTC, which allows direct transfers but doesn't permit stops). I wonder if there are any other ideas that are more or less successful...

Speaking of cars, GM Canada is selling what's left of the 2005
Cavaliers at an incredible price - about
$13,000. Wow. And why are they dropping the price? Because they're discontinuing it, and replacing it with the
Cobalt. So I'll have a "Classic" car in a year. XD

The Incredibles is going to be out on
DVD March 15, and considering it's still in theatres (and may still be in another month), that's an... incredible turnaround. Drat, I didn't want to use "incredible" a second time. XD
