I've always known that in regards to the newspapers, we have a interesting mishmash of readers.

Just to preface this, I'm not aiming to offend anyone with my remarks in this post.

We have the Toronto Sun, which has been said has a Grade-6 reading level in terms of its writing.

We have the Toronto Star, which is has a High-School reading level and was bluntly "suggested" that we read it every day at Centennial College because some of our tests were in regards to Current Events.

We have the Globe and Mail and National Post, which are both very business-oriented newspapers and, at times, I can't understand what they're saying, or trying to say.

Now, we also have a pair of free newspapers (approximately 16-20 pages with hundreds of small newsbites), which surfaced about 2 years ago - Metro Today (which is a combination of the free newspaper "Metro", and "Today", which was run by the Toronto Star) and "24 Hours" (which is run by the Toronto Sun).

This morning I noticed the front of the Metro Today read "Pot Use high in TO". Over in the 24 Hours box, "Shocking Shampoo Scandal". This, my friend, is the differences between the "front page news".

However, I also discovered that the entire front page of the 24 Hours was a cleverly-designed advertisment. O.o Now, a few days ago Metro had something similar - the Metro headline with the text "Win a trip to anywhere in the world" and that caught my attention - it was an ad for Bell. But they must've paid for the extra space as they took 3 of the 4 extra pages and gave the last page to Metro for more stories, maybe more ads, I don't know.

I find that clever, though.
