I absolutely love The Ongoing History of New Music by Alan Cross.
I remember he had two books - but looking at his Bio, I don't recognize the books I was wanting to get, except maybe Over the Edge: The Revolution and Evolution of New Rock. Boo.
He mentioned something today about how Coldplay has never licensed their songs out for advertising purposes - charities, fine, but not for commercials. However, ABC managed to get away with it for their promos at one point because apparently TV promotions don't have to ask for permission to use songs. I'm going to ask him about that and see if that's under the 30-second "Fair Use" Rule, and maybe he can point me to a couple of books on the subject. I figure it's all legalities, but I'd be interested to read-up on what can and can't be done at a TV station.
One more thing, I think Erin might be intruiged by this - apparently, Clocks almost wasn't on Coldplay's CD Rush of Blood to the Head because the band didn't like it. Amazing, huh?
