So word came out today that Studio Ghibli will close up shop and just work on managing its copyrights.

This is sad news to come across today.

A couple of days ago I reposted something on Tumblr regarding Miyazaki's thoughts on the inevitable closing, comments which were made long before the announcement happened. At the time, was just something whimsical and thoughtful. Today, I revisited it and gave a small sendoff at the bottom.

I really don't think I have much else to say about this.

EDIT: It didn't even last 30 years. This saddens me MORE.

For what it's worth, there seems to be some real uncertainty about the Studio Ghibli news. According to this Variety article, the announcement was more along the lines of "taking a hiatus and doing some downsizing", as opposed to "we're shutting the whole thing down". So, here's hoping.

I'm still worried. Can I be worried? ^^

(Anime News Network is actually down at the moment. I bet it's being hammered.)

That is very sad news. On the other hand, I can't help but admire Miyazaki's outlook on the whole thing. Create and be free, but don't worry when the time comes to close the book; this one has been good, but there will be other stories. What he's done has been remarkable, and he, and Studio Ghibli, will be missed.
